Progressive. Confident. Editorial.

A progressive, confident, editorial website for a serious complex-care provider, made human through real photography of real people in real CareChoice homes, warm off-white and gradient backgrounds rather than hard white, and a restrained layer of hand-drawn accents that break the grid without ever carrying the message. The pink border, with a white variant, is the single signature device. The typeface, palette and full-stop motif carry forward. The retired elements of the 2024 guide do not. The website leads the brand's next chapter, and Pangea shapes how anything new extends beyond it.

Where the tone sits

Round 1 sat slightly left of centre on the clinical/corporate to playful/whimsical scale. Round 2 moves to just right of centre and stops there. CareChoice's audiences are making high-stakes decisions in a category where trust has been tested. Warmth and honesty read as human. Whimsy would read as flippant.

Every new visual element goes to Evan at Pangea before Amanda sees it. Hand-drawn accents are website-first - Pangea decides whether they become wider brand assets. Ven maintains a running list of new elements and shares it with Pangea at each round.

Visual
System.

Round 2 visual system

The building blocks.

3.1 Layout and grid

Structure with intent

  • Keep the underlying grid for readability and accessibility, then break it deliberately in two or three places per page
  • Image groups are staggered or offset, never four identical tiles in a row
  • Some images sit partly outside their container or bleed to the edge
  • Every section is a reusable module. Variety comes from how modules combine
3.2 Hero

The first impression

  • Retain the inside-the-image pink border
  • Remove the pink circle overlay and background motif
  • Use one of the three campaign photographs Evan supplied, or equivalent real imagery
  • No NDIS badge. Accreditation in words
  • Headline in human language. A proof point within the first viewport
3.3 Backgrounds and rhythm

Surface variety

  • Default surface is off-white, not pure white
  • Vertical gradient fades between sections built from palette colours
  • Alternate surfaces: off-white, soft palette tint, pink block, photographic full-bleed
  • No two adjacent sections share a surface
3.4 Photography

Real people, real homes

  • Real CareChoice people, staff and homes. No stock. No posed smiling portraits
  • In context: people doing things in their home, not looking at the camera
  • Square crops. Borders and staggering provide the energy
  • Supply so far: three campaign hero photographs and the campaign social tiles. Broader library or shoot to be confirmed
3.5 Hand-drawn accent layer

Warmth without weight

  • Vocabulary: underline, circle, scribble, star, arrow. Slightly irregular strokes, one weight
  • Placement: around or beneath headings, beside section labels, in the news module. Never over faces or body copy
  • Density: at most one accent per section. Absent from forms, listings and compliance content
  • Scope: homepage, careers, community and news. Not on service pages covering restrictive practices, forensic support, PBS, hospital discharge, complaints or privacy
  • Purely decorative. Never the only carrier of meaning. Hidden from assistive technology
  • Drawn in palette colours: pink for emphasis, a darker neutral for quieter moments
3.6 Testimonials and quotes

Expressive and real

  • Large-scale pull quote as a typographic object, with a hand-drawn accent and the speaker's real photograph alongside
  • Break the container: the quote mark or photo overlaps the section edge
  • No card, box or border around the quote itself
  • Attribution names the relationship (parent, support coordinator, resident)
3.7 Icons

Legible and consistent

  • Pathway tiles are icon-led. References: Aruma, MaxLife Care
  • Enlarge the current icon set or replace with hand-drawn equivalents. One system across the site
3.8 Buttons, forms and listings

Clear and conventional

  • Clear, high contrast, conventional. The playful layer stops at the edge of anything transactional
  • Vacancy listings, enquiry forms and careers listings are designed for confidence and scannability
3.9 Motion [inferred]

Subtle and respectful

  • Round 2 will include a note on which accents animate on scroll (underlines drawing on, gradients fading in)
  • Subtle, and respectful of reduced-motion settings
Section 04

Accessibility

WCAG 2.2 AA

Every detail tested.

4.5:1
Gradient contrast
Text over gradients must meet 4.5:1 at the weakest point of the gradient.
Aa
White on pink
White type on #FF008C does not meet 4.5:1 at body sizes. Restricted to large type (24px regular / 19px bold and above) and non-text elements, or a darker pink introduced for text. Pangea to decide.
Decorative accents
Hand-drawn accents are decorative only and hidden from assistive technology.
Reading order
Reading order in code stays logical regardless of visual offset.
Keyboard navigation
Anchor indexes on long pages are keyboard operable with visible focus. Sticky elements never obscure focus.
Light grey on off-white
Light grey text that passed on white is rechecked on off-white backgrounds.
Easy Read
Easy Read variants of key pages use a plainer template with the accent layer off.

Rounded-corner photography8 of 10Square-crop rule is a genuine differentiator. Hold it.
Pill-shaped buttons7 of 10Square or lightly rounded buttons.
Sans-serif type only10 of 10CareChoice's slab-serif headings are unique. Worth weighing.
Teal or green primary5 of 10Pink is distinct in hue.
Pastel tint section backgrounds7 of 10Off-white and gradients, not mint/peach/lilac.
"Live life your way" headlines5 of 10Headlines should be concrete and specific.
Smiling-to-camera hero photographyMostPhotography is mid-task, not posed.
NDIS badge in header or footer8 of 10Words, not logos. Already a brand rule.
White-dominant page ground10 of 10Off-white and gradients move CareChoice off this.
Moves no competitor is making

Visual identity

  • Square-cropped editorial photography framed by a single pink keyline
  • Quiet, mid-task photography: documentary calm
  • People inside actual CareChoice homes
  • Plum or near-black as a serious counterweight to pink

Content and trust

  • Named staff with role and tenure on the homepage
  • Concrete headlines rather than the "your way" formula
  • Trust content as a design element: how staff are screened, how to raise a concern
  • Paired imagery and sequencing rather than a single hero and a card grid
A note on pink
Pink is not unclaimed in Victorian care. Nurse Next Door uses a similar pink as a large flat fill, and Melba and Life Without Barriers use pink accents. CareChoice's pink becomes distinctive through deployment: as a keyline, a rule and a small block set against real photography and a serious typographic voice. Large pink floods would move the site towards Nurse Next Door.
Where playfulness needs care

Context: the Disability Royal Commission's findings on dignity and adult agency, live safeguarding news in the sector, and families and coordinators making decisions under pressure. Playfulness should read as "these are warm, confident people," never as lightness about serious things.

Safe
Typographic scale, colour placement, photo sequencing, micro-copy in forms, the careers section, community stories, and the pink frame as a window into a real home.
Not appropriate
Illustrated people or mascots, hand-drawn marks near clinical/safeguarding content, consumer-brand copy, staged photography, blob-heavy rounded interfaces, large pink fills.
Accessibility notes from audit
Current site body grey (~#7C7C7C) on white does not meet AA. Will not carry over.

Two brand pinks in circulation: #C63B96 (live site, passes with white type) and #FF008C (Round 1 build, does not pass at body sizes). Pangea to confirm which is the brand pink.
